Every devotee wants to know the mystery of a divine temple present at Mahakaleshwar temple, Ujjain. Very few people know about nagchandreshwar temple.

There is a tradition of worshiping snakes in hindu religion and for decades devotees are offering prayers to snakes.

As per hindu culture snakes are ornaments of lord shiva and so they have special place in heart of hindus. There are many temples of snakes in all over India and among them "NAGCHANDRESHWAR temple" of ujjain is very famous. It is present in the premises of Mahakal temple and in 3rd floor .

The important things about this temple is that, it opens only once in a year and on Panchmi of shrawan shukla paksh as per hindu panchang.

It is believed that Nagraj TAKSHAK lives in this temple.

Let's know about the Story Of This Nagchandreshwar Temple?

Once the king of snakes 'Takshak has done severe penance ' to please lord shiva. Bholenath became happy with him and blessed him with immortality. After that Takshak has started living with lord shiva in Mahakal-Van. But Takshak wants to live in silence and alone and so for this this temple is open once in a year.

It is believed that if anyone one offer prayer in naagchandreshwar temple then he or she become free from any type of Sarp dosha. And so mob comes to offer prayer here on the auspicious day of naagpanchmi in ujjain.

It is believed that Naagraaj Takshak himself lives in this temple and so for his sake, this temple kept closed whole the year except naagpanchmi.

There is a divine statue of lord shiva and parwati sitting under the umbrella of Snakes. This statue has been brought from nepal. This is the only statue in which bholenath is sitting under the Shesh Saiya.

Many devotees has seen original snake in this temple while offering prayer.

The door of this nagchandreshwar temple opens at 12 night and remains open till 12 midnight of next day.

All arrangements of this temple is done by Mahanirwani Akhada.

Collector of ujjain also offer prayer on nagpanchmi at this temple.
