This is the day of purification and so from the morning every one start the processes to over come every impurities. Apamarg herb is used in this day to pure the body.
Ladies generally used apamarg/andhijhada to clean teeth and to take bath, It is a custom to pour 108 mug of water on head. In river devotees take 108 dip on this day. Fast is done for whole day and no grain is taken. Only Mordhan is used to eat which is also a sacred thing to eat.
After taking bath proper worship of 7 sages are done and story of rishi panchmi is read. The name of 7 sages/rishis are Kashyap, Atri, Bhardwaja, Vishwamitra, Gautam, Jamdagni, Vashishtha. Females pray to them ask to forgive for any sin done unknowingly during menstruation days.
